Acoustic instruments we think of mostly in wooden, string, gut, metal. Terje Isungset has spent a long time building music out of ice.

A recording from May perhaps the 2nd 2019 at Spitsbergen/Svalbard.
All of the video and the sounds/music are recorded in 10 degrees below celsius, at locale – less than the friendly midnight sunshine of Spitsbergen. It has been an honor to collaborate with Greenpeace for offering emphasis to “our” oceans, and check out to find a way of preserving the exclusive existence there.
Numerous individuals have worked on this job. Thanks a whole lot to master ice carver Bill Covitz, thanks to the musicians Andreas Hesselberg Hatzikiriakidis, Åshild Brunvoll and Maria Dahlin. The devices to me are currently gorgeous – and a feeling of how transformative materiality can be in devices usually, nonetheless you compose the results. (I’d be up for a lot of experimental normally takes on this notion…)
